Hi my name is Wanda Duncan, and I’m a superfan of Black women travelers.

I’m the community manager of the group Black Women Digital Nomad Entrepreneurs.

I’m the executive producer of the weekly podcast Black Women Travel Podcast.

And event producer of the International Black Women Travel Jubilee-an annual conference for Black women travelers.

I’ve Been Nominated!!!

I’m so honored to be a finalist for the Trailblazer Award from the Women in Travel Summit 2021 Bessie Awards. The part that resonates the most with me is “carving out a path for future leaders in the travel space.”

Between our Black Women Digital Nomad Facebook group, the weekly Black Women Travel Podcast, and the International Black Women Travel Jubilee annual conference, I’ve wanted to show each and every Black girl and woman traveler, that’s she’s capable of figuring it out. She can travel for as long as she chooses, make money how she wants, craft the lifestyle that she desires, and she’s not alone in that process. My work largely is about connecting dots around the globe: ideas, people, and opportunities for collaboration and income.

So grateful for the recognition!

About the Bessie Awards

The Bessie Awards honor women and gender diverse people of impact in travel, particularly influencers, creative entrepreneurs, marketers, and industry members who have added a compelling voice to the industry. The Bessies are named after Bessie Coleman, the first woman of African American and Native American descent to hold a pilot’s license.

We hope to invoke the spirit of Ms. Coleman by honoring the truly creative work of some of our biggest thought leaders and innovators in travel. We value the contributions of diverse people of all ages and backgrounds who represent us as a community of travelers.

Empowering people to live more intentional lives is mah thing. Day in and day out I see people talking about securing the bag, and trying to be where the money reside.

I don’t see as many discussions about being/living as whole people, navigating systems that have commodified our time, imaginations, and energy, and how to straddle the two in a way that serves you.

So let’s taco bout it!

Black Travel Alliance Member Spotlight

BTA Member Spotlight: We asked Wanda Duncan of @bwtpod What inspired you to become a content creator? What is your ultimate goal with your platform? Her response:

Black women inspired me. I’ve been able to figure out some things for myself, and have since been dedicated to creating community, and making travel more accessible for Black women having a hard time piecing together how to prioritize travel in their lives.
